The Mount Hood Railroad excursions include mystery dinners, music tributes, wine tours, fictitious train robberies and more. In the cooler months a Polar Express is operated.
The line starts out parallel to the Hood River for the first three miles until it reaches the switchback, which is now only one of five remaining in use in the United States. After the trains reverse direction at the switchback, the line continues south through the communities of Pine Grove, Odell, and Dee before reaching the southern end of the line at Parkdale. The total length of the line is approximately 22 miles.
Hours of operation: Daily 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Paid parking facilities are available at the depot at a rate of $5 per car, $6 per RV and $7 per bus when taking the 4 to 5 hour round trip train ride.
Limited parking when the train is running. No parking fee to stop to press the pennies.
The penny machine shares locations with the WAAAM museum (also in Hood River) and is only here October through April. Call ahead to verify when the penny machine is here.
