Bonneville Hatchery is Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife’s largest hatchery facility and has a diverse fish production program. It is used for adult collection, egg incubation and rearing of Tule fall Chinook, and adult collection and spawning of coho salmon. It is also used for rearing of, summer steelhead, winter steelhead and coho (coho egg incubation occurs at Cascade Hatchery). The hatchery has excellent egg and fingerling quarantine facilities that are often used to assist other hatchery programs in the basin. Make sure you see Herman the Sturgeon. He is located in the Sturgeon Viewing Center building about 500 feet east of the gift shop Herman is approximately 10’ long, 500 pounds and over 45 years old.

Although you take the same exit off of I-84 (Exit 40), this is a completely different location than the Bonneville Dam Visitor's Center.

Hours of operation: Daily, November 1 to March 1: 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. March 1 to October 31: 7:00 am to 8:00 pm. Closed Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
Plenty of free parking.

The penny machine is located inside the gift shop building to the left of the entrance. Designs are:

9/15/23 - Machine rolled a little short on post-1982 zinc pennies but overall worked well.
A bunch of penny albums were on the machine, including multiple generic albums in different colors, a wider Pennybandz album and even a penny journal (like one of those flip books to store photos in).
