Comments:	Nieuwe Kerk (English: New Church) is a landmark Protestant church. In 1584, Willem van Oranje (William the Silent) was entombed here in a mausoleum. Since then members of the House of Orange-Nassau have been entombed in the royal crypt. The latest are Queen Juliana and her husband Prince Bernhard in 2004. The private royal family crypt is not open to the public. Hugo Grotius, also known as Hugo de Groot, whose statue stands in the market-place outside the church, helped lay the foundations for international law, based on natural law. It was from the top of this tower that the scholars Simon Stevin and Jan Cornets de Groot (father of the legal expert Hugo) carried out their famous gravitational experiments. Using two lead balls, (one of them ten times heavier than the other) the scientists showed that heavy and light objects of the same size fall to earth at the same speed.<p> The euro cent machine is on the second level of the tower after the first round of winding, narrow stairs (119 steps). There is no elevator. The two token machines are free to access and are located before entering the gift shop, tower and church. There is no access to the token machines after hours. You must pay the 4.00€ entry fee to climb the tower. Hours of admission: Vary widely depending on the time of year, check the web site.
