The Zoo is proud to have had the first births of Polar Bears and Siamangs in captivity. The Zoo is also home to one of the largest groups of Bonobos in one location outside their native Congo. The Zoo also has two Cheetahs from the National Zoo in Washington, DC.
The gift shops offer free printed maps of the Penny Press locations and the machines are scattered throughout the Zoo.
The Zoo also sells its' own Souvenir Penny Books.
Milwaukee County Zoo Hours:
May through September hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
September through May hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Animal Buildings close 15 minutes prior to Zoo closing time.

5/17/2025 - All that remains are the hand-crank $1 machines in the US Bank Gathering Place.
It appears that all of the electronic 51ยข machines have been removed. Unsure if they're out for repairs or have been retired.
Where did customer service say the machine went to ??? Repair, maintenance, conversion, updating, retired???
6/5/25 Admission was $21.75 per person AND $15 to park car!
We told clerk we only wanted to go to gift shop and they hesitantly let us in for free. We did only go to gift shop/ Gathering Place and there were 3 machines that all took dollar bill or credit cards. Machines 18, 19 and 20 as noted below, all pressed on copper very well, but just slightly cut off top edge.
