King John’s Castle is located here, on the southern bank of the River Shannon, a little above the Curraghgower Falls. It was built to defend the river boundary and bridge between the Gaelic kingdoms to the west and the Norman kingdoms to the east and south. King John’s Castle acted as a watchdog on sailors and cargoes. It was also the administrative and military centre for the Norman kingdom of Limerick. <p> Open April–Sept, 9:30am to 5:30pm, last admission 4.30pm. Oct–March 9:30am to 4:30pm, last admission 3:15pm. Closed on Dec 24th, 25th & 26th.<p> Machine is down in the area of the Castle called the 'Mint'. Designs are: <br> 1) 'King John's Castle Limerick', image of side of castle, <br> 2) 'King John's Castle Limerick', image of front of castle, <br> 3) Castle crest, <br> 4) 'Treaty Stone Limerick', <p> 1/03/19: The machine was working fine.
