The weathered grave slabs on the outer walls of the church take visitors on a journey back in time. The nearly 300-year-old Baroque high altar with a golden figure of St. Peter is one of Munich's best-known ecclesiastical art treasures. The viewing platform in St. Peter's, at a height of 184 feet (56 meters), offers a great view in all directions - including, of course, Marienplatz with City Hall (Rathaus) and the Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) behind it.
The Church is just opposite the old Rathaus/Glockenspiel at the Marienplatz U-Bahn stop Subway line U3/6. The machine is not in the Church itself, but up the first flight of about 20 flights of stairs leading up to the Tower (turm). These stairs are accessible from the exterior (not interior) of the Church. Walk around the outside of the building until you see the little concession stand selling tchochkes (trinkets) next to the narrow Tower entry.
Hours of operation: Summer hours: Monday through Friday 09.00 (9:00 am) to 18.30 (6:30 pm), Saturday, Sunday and Holidays: 10.00 (10:00 am) to 18.30 (6:30 pm). Closing: 19.00 (7:00 pm). Winter hours: Monday through Friday 09.00 (9:00 am) to 17.30 (5:30 pm) Saturday, Sunday and Holidays: 10.00 (10:00 am) to 17.30 (5:30 pm). Closing: 18.00 (6:00 pm).
Entrance fee to the tower: Adults: 5 euros (reduced: 3 euros), Pupils (6-18 years): 2 euro, Students (on presentation of a valid ID): 3 euros, Children under 6 years: free. Advance reservation is not possible and climb to the top of the stairs. >
The man at the concession stand will give you change that you can use for the machine and may not charge you to enter the tower and use the machine.
Machine 2 is on the second level of the tower. Cost to press: €2 for each design and a blank is provided for pressing. Designs all have a beaded border:
