High ancient sea ledges, deep rocky canyons, flowering cactus, and desert wildlife—treasures above the ground in the Chihuahuan Desert. Hidden beneath the surface are more than 119 caves—formed when sulfuric acid dissolved limestone leaving behind caverns of all sizes.
Carlsbad Cavern includes a large limestone chamber, named simply the Big Room, which is almost 4,000 feet long, 625 feet wide, and 255 feet high at its highest point. The Big Room is the fifth largest chamber in North America and the twenty-eighth largest in the world.

The park entrance is located on US Highway 62/180, approximately 18 miles southwest of Carlsbad, New Mexico or 150 miles west of El Paso, Texas. A scenic 7-mile entrance road leads from the park gate at Whites City to the visitor center and cavern entrance.

The machine is in the fancy gift shop to your left after you enter the main visitor center entrance, not the smaller shop in the back to the right. The machine is straight ahead of the gift shop entrance.
