It is still a long climb, and you have to share narrow stairwell with people going up and down the stairs.
If change is needed, there is a person who sits in a booth near machine 1 who can provide change.
The machines take a 5 cent Euro and a 1 Euro coin per design.
Machine 1 is located in bell tower on your way up to the tower in the Kölner Dom (Köln Cathedral). It is situated at the end of the 1st series of steps to the top. You've probably have climbed 400 steps at this point. Designs:
