Zaanse Schans is a neighborhood of Zaandam, near Zaandijk in the municipality of Zaanstad in the province of North Holland. It has a collection of well-preserved historic windmills and houses from all over the Zaanstreek. Zaanse Schans gives a glimpse of the traditional Dutch way of life in the 17th and 18th centuries. Packed with wooden windmills, barns, houses and museums built in the typical Dutch wooden architectural style, the buildings in the area are all authentic - relocated here piece by piece since 1961. Zaanse Schans can be visited the whole year and offers a variety of things to see and do: windmills, shops, cafés and restaurants and traditional craft demonstrations.

Hours of operation: In the high season (April until November), almost everything is open between 10.00 am and 17.00 (5:00 pm).
Purchase the Zaanse Schans card for €15 00. It gives you admission to the Zaans museum, admission to the area of the shops, windmills, additional museums, demonstration area, and one windmill of your choice.
Plenty of parking for a fee of €9 a day. Two handicapped parking spaces are available (also for the same fee).
If you are staying in Amsterdam, you can take Connexxion bus 391 from platform E at the Centraal Station directly to the Koog-Zandijk bus stop in front of the museum for €10.00 per person round trip. The bus ride takes about 40 minutes. The Koog-Zandijk stop is the last stop on this route and then turns around and returns to Centraal Station. The buses run about every 15 to 30 minutes.
