The tower is the second lighthouse tower in St. Augustine, the first being lit officially by the American territorial government in May 1824 as Florida's first lighthouse. However, both the Spanish and the British governments operated a major aid to navigation here including a series of wooden watch towers and beacons dating from 1565.
Hours of operation: Note: The lighthouse tower may close due to weather and other events. Hours are subject to change. Monday through Sunday 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. Closed Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, close at 3:00 pm on Christmas Eve. Plenty of free parking in front of gift shop. A penny book is for sale in the gift shop for $4.95.
Admission: You can access the penny machine in the gift shop without paying for admission to the lighthouse. Adult (13 years and older) $14.95, Senior (60 and older) $12.95, Children (12 years and younger) $12.95. Children who are not yet 44 inches tall are not able to climb the lighthouse tower and do not need a ticket (admitted free with parent or caretaker).
Machine 1 is in the gift shop on the left wall, inside the "movie room". Cost to press: 51¢ each design. Designs all have 'JD' at the catch notch and a beaded border:
