The first castle on the site was built by the Normans after 1081, to protect the newly conquered town of Cardiff and control the route along the Taff Gorge. <br> Pronounced like Coke but with a soft 'k' Translated from Welsh, Coch means Red<p> The new <b>GEM</b> machine is located inside the castle. Entry fee should be paid. Consider buying a CADW membership, it only costs £18 and gives unlimited entry into many of Welsh magnificent castles<p> Machine Designs. Each cost £1, the penny is from an internal hopper, these were shiny and new when I visited .
