The Plains of San Agustin, Hwy 60 Magdalena, NM , 87825-0000 Phone: (575) 835-7410 Website The Very Large Array, one of the world's premier astronomical radio observatories, consists of 27 radio antennas in a Y-shaped configuration on the Plains of San Agustin fifty miles west of Socorro, New Mexico. Each antenna is 82 feet (25 meters) in diameter. The data from the antennas is combined electronically to give the resolution of an antenna 22 miles (36 km) across, with the equivalent sensitivity of a dish 422 feet (130 meters) in diameter.
Hours of operation: Open daily. Gift shop: 9:00 am to 4:00 pm (Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Years Day) Visitor Center: 8:30 am to Sunset. Admission: No admission cost to gift shop. Adults: $6.00, Seniors (65+): $5.00, Ages 17 and under are free. Socorro & Catron County Resident bringing a paying guest is free. First Saturday Tours: 11:00 am, 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm, Third Saturday Tours: 11:00 am, 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.
