The Interislander ferry is the longest running Cook Strait ferry service in New Zealand. Interislander sails between Wellington (North Island) and Picton (South Island) carrying walk on passengers and drive on vehicles. The Interislander ferry is known as one of the most beautiful ferry journeys in the world and one of New Zealand's most iconic tourism experiences. The Interislander connects to the scenic rail experiences; the Coastal Pacific, which runs from Picton to Christchurch, and the Northern Explorer which journeys through the heart of the North Island.

Hours of operation of terminal: 8:00 am daily. Closes: 8.00 pm daily, 11:00 pm on Sundays. The Kaitaki Interislander sails once a day from Picton to Wellington, arrives in Picton at 12:30 pm and leaves Picton at 2:15 pm. Hours may vary according to sailing schedule.
Short term parking for a fee is available.

November 14, 2018. I didn't have the time to ride the ferry to Wellington so I asked the attendant at the ticket sales office if I could go on board just to press a penny. She said I couldn't go on board (even accompanied) because I had to pay admission. She did radio one of the clean up crew on board and asked if they would press it for me. THEY DID! I was very happy to reimburse them for the cost and thanked them profusely. MWHTH
