The city gate was built from approximately 7,200 stone blocks. it has been preserved to this day due to its massive construction. It is today the largest Roman city gate north of the Alps. It is designated as part of the Roman Monuments, Cathedral of St Peter and Church of Our Lady in Trier UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Hours of operation: Monday through Saturday 10:00 (10:00 am) to 17:00 (5:00 pm), Closed Sunday. No admission cost to enter the Tourist Information building. Admission for the Porta Nigra: Adults €4.00, Children and pupils (up to age 18) €2.50, Children under the age of 7 free. No parking on-site.
