1000 Route 2 Westbound (Historic Mohawk Trail) Leominster - Lancaster, MA , 01523-0000 Phone: (978) 534-2302 Website Jonathan Chapman (AKA Johnny Appleseed) was an eccentric frontier nurseryman who established orchards in large parts of Pennsylvania, Ontario, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois, as well as the northern counties of present-day West Virginia. He became the basis of the folk hero Johnny Appleseed, who has been the subject of countless stories, movies and works of art. John Chapman was born locally in Leominster, Massachusetts and is the official state folk hero for Massachusetts. The Visitors Center has a good supply of travel booklets and maps, plus interesting gifts and souvenirs of the area. It is a good place to buy snacks for a picnic. They also have some tasty apple based baked goods.
The Johnny Appleseed Visitor Center is right off of route 2 on the westbound side and is in between exit 33 and 34. The nearby exits make it easy to reverse direction. Hours of operation: Monday through Sunday 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. The hours are seasonal and may change: call ahead.
Plenty of free parking.
The penny machine is to the left when you enter the main doors. Designs cost 51¢ each:
