It is named after the engineer Gustave Eiffel, whose company designed and built the tower. Constructed from 1887 to 1889 as the entrance to the 1889 World's Fair, it was initially criticized by some of France's leading artists and intellectuals for its design, but it has become a global cultural icon of France and one of the most recognizable structures in the world. The Eiffel Tower is the most-visited paid monument in the world.
The tower is 1,063 ft tall, about the same height as an 81-storey building, and the tallest structure in Paris. Its base is square, measuring 410 ft on each side.

Machines 1&2 are located on the first floor of the Eiffel Tower.
Machines 3&4 are on the second floor.
All machines are in working order and require either two 1 Euro coins or one 2 Euro coin.Be sure to wait 5 seconds after inserting euros before turning the crank or you will not get the design you choose!
The two token machines are on the ground floor under the tower and do not require a ticket to access. |
