Shasta Dam (called Kennett Dam before its construction) is a concrete arch-gravity dam across the Sacramento River in the northern part of the U.S. state of California, at the North end of the Sacramento Valley. The dam mainly serves as long-term water storage and flood control in its reservoir, Shasta Lake, and also generates hydroelectric power. At 602 feet high, it is the ninth-tallest dam in the United States and forms the largest reservoir in California.
To reach Lake Shasta Caverns, take exit 695 from I-5 north or south bound (Shasta Caverns Road/ O'Brien Exit). Travel about a mile and a half down a winding road to the east and follow the double yellow line, it will dead end in their parking lot. Although the land is owned by the U.S. Forest Service, a private company runs the Caverns and the two boat launch areas.
