333 South Valley View Boulevard Las Vegas, NV , 89107-4372 Phone: (702) 822-7700 Website Listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1978, the Springs Preserve is a 180-acre cultural institution designed to commemorate Las Vegas' history. The Preserve features museums, galleries, outdoor events, colorful botanical gardens and an interpretive trail system through a scenic wetland habitat. A 20-minute narrated ride down the Preserve's 2.2-mile Exploration Loop Trail on the trackless train recreates the San Pedro, Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad Line that helped put Las Vegas on the map.
The Nevada State Museum is a unique part of the overall Springs Preserve experience. Housed in a beautiful, 70,000-square-foot building, the facility features a 13,000-square-foot exhibit gallery that stands as the museum centerpiece, allowing visitors to: stand face-to-face with Nevada's state fossil, an Ichthyosaur Shonisaurus popularis, step inside a stalactite cave, watch holographic figures tell the tale of Nevada's miners, witness an atomic explosion, and see historic Las Vegas glitz and glamour.
Hours of operation: Preserve; Thursday through Monday 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Nevada State Museum; Thursday through Monday 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Both are closed Thanksgiving and Christmas days. The Nevada State Museum is closed October 31st (Nevada admission day) and New Years Day.
