It contains chambers for the Washington State Legislature and offices for the governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state and treasurer and is part of a campus consisting of several buildings. Buildings for the Washington Supreme Court, executive agencies and the Washington Governor's Mansion are part of the capitol campus. The Capitol Campus was placed on the National Register of Historic Districts in 1974 and contains or contributes to some of the most valued views in the State including the Olympic Mountains, Puget Sound, Mt. Rainier, the Capitol Dome and the Capitol Group of buildings on the hill.
Hours of operation: Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Saturday, Sunday and Holidays 11:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Closed Thanksgiving, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas day (December 25th) and New Years day (January 1st).
Free 1/2 hour parking in the Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater Visitor Information Center parking lot. Free 1 hour street parking is available within a few blocks radius.
The staff member at the gift shop was more than willing to make change, and mentioned that the machine is new. Three different penny books and Pennybandz are for sale.
If you are short on time there is a wooden box at the register with all the coins available for Legislative Gift Center, Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater Tourism Information Center and the Temple of Justice Building. They are .51 each.
