The cable car (Funivia) of the Republic of San Marino connects the Castle of Borgo Maggiore with that of San Marino City. The Funivia was inaugurated in August 1959. Over the years it has undergone a series of modernizations with the latest opening on Saturday 15 April 2017. In years of service, the old cable car has made over 850,000 trips and transported more than 14 million passengers. With the new cars, it has gone from 20 to 50 people per trip. In this way the hourly capacity increased from 530 to 1,190 passengers.

Hours of operation: Monday through Sunday 07,45 (7:45 am) and closes as early as 18,30 (6:30 pm) and as late as 01,00 (1:00 am). Closing hours vary seasonally; check the website. Service runs every 15 minutes. There is a charge to park in the parking lot right outside the main entrance door.

Both machines are located at the bottom cable car station. If you take the bus from Rimini, you will need to either get off at the cable car stop before the end of the line or ride the cable car down. A round trip ticket costs €4.50, one way € 2.80.
