The museum was chartered in 1882 and opened to the public in 1884. MPM has three floors of exhibits and the first IMAX Theater in Wisconsin. Admission is free to residents of Milwaukee County on Mondays.

Retired 1 - The Museum's temporary exhibit - Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition 3 design set (In 2009).
Retired 2 - Buffalo (in 2007).
Retired 4 - Milwaukee Numismatic Society design in commemoration of the ANA's "World Fair of Money" that took place at the Museum in 2007.
