The Space Needle is 605 feet high, 138 feet wide, and weighs 9,550 tons. It is built to withstand winds of up to 200 miles per hour and earthquakes of up to 9.1 magnitude. It also has 25 lightning rods. The Space Needle was built in the Seattle Center for the 1962 World's Fair, which drew over 2.3 million visitors when nearly 20,000 people a day used its elevators. The Space Needle has an observation deck at 520 feet and the rotating SkyCity restaurant at 500 feet. The SpaceBase gift shop, located at the ground floor of the Space Needle, has a HUGE selection of Space Needle themed souvenirs.
Hours of operation: Monday through Sunday 10:00 am to 9:30 pm. The Seattle Space Needle penny book is sold in the Gift Shop for $6.99 plus tax.
Entry into the SpaceBase gift shop on the ground floor is free. You must pay admission to access Token Machines 3 and 4 at the top of the Space Needle. See website for admission costs to access the top of the Space Needle.
Paid parking at Republic Parking 5th Avenue N Garage next of the Seattle Center (entrances on Harrison Street and Republican Street) for $ 6.00 - 0 to 1:00 Hour, $ 13.00 - 1:01 to 2:00 Hours, $ 15.00 - 2:01 to 12:00 Hours, $ 30.00 - 12:01 to 24:00 Hours. Very limited on street parking is available adjacent to the Seattle Center.
There are 4 other penny machines in the Seattle Center. One at the Monorail entrance and 3 at the Pacific Science Center. The Pacific Science Center charges admission.
The penny machine, quarter machine, token machine #2, and change machine are inside the SpaceBase gift shop all in a row with each other, to the left of the ground floor doors exiting toward the Monorail and Essentially Seattle Store.
