9777 Golf Links Road Oakland, CA , 94605 Phone: 510-632-9525 Website Oakland Zoo, in the past known as the Knowland Zoo, is a 100-acre zoo located in southeastern Oakland. It is relatively small for a city of its size, but it contains modern exhibits. Most of its animals are kept in relatively "natural" habitats, and expanded natural habitats are planned. Its plans for the future include interactive exhibits, state of the art animal housing facilities and children's play areas. The Zoo is nationally known for its excellent elephant exhibit and has been praised for allowing their elephants to roam freely.
Admission fees: You have to pay a $12 fee to get into Knowland Park where the Zoo is and then the Zoo admission fee to get into the Zoo. They get you twice.
The new Gondola ride (Free) from near the Giraffe area to the new Cafe on top of the hill is up and running. There is a fantastic view of Bay Area from the Gondolas and the Cafe.
Also around the Café, there is a new area containing Black Bear mom & 2 cubs (Rescued), Grizzly Bears (Rescued), Bald Eagles, Condors, a Jaguar, Wolves and a Bison herd.

8/04/24: Two new penny machines and one new token machine added here. GSY
8/13/24: Machine 11 at top of Gondola exit by start of California Trail. Hopper was out of pennies so wasn't working. Pennies strewn all over inside of machine so not making it to die. If it did work I would have had to contend with a stream of people trying to use machine.
Machine 10 outside of park in kids area. This machine worked great. Not one other person tried to use. Some copper added to hopper.
Medallion machine just inside entrance. It ripped me off and others trying to use it. Guest Services wasn't amenable to refunds. Entrance fee must be bought online with a sliding scale fee for day and time. Parking was $12. RK
